Go through each room and set aside items you don’t plan to move (sell, donate, or toss).
Separate any items the movers won’t handle (flammables, perishables, etc.).
Empty trash bins so they don’t get packed while full.
Pack smaller items, personal belongings, and valuables yourself
Clearly label boxes with room names and fragile tags where needed.
Tape boxes securely and keep similar items together (e.g., kitchenware, bathroom items).​
If the movers are doing the packing, make sure your items are sorted and ready.
Make sure driveways, hallways, and walkways are clear of obstacles.
Reserve parking for the moving truck
Prop doors open if possible for easy access.
Remove floor mats or rugs that could trip movers.
Keep pets and small children out of areas that movers are working in
Review your moving contract and confirm arrival time.
Prepare any payment or tips (if applicable).
Take photos of furniture and valuable items before the move for reference.
